Job Description

The individual is responsible for preparation of federal and various state tax returns of eligible partners. The role includes tax planning for estimated payments and general tax minimization for the partners of the firm. In addition, the role may evolve to include preparation of individual tax returns for BDO staff on secondment assignments including the calculation of tax equalization settlements. This is an opportunity of a tax person to serve a base of clients without the pressure to build a book of business.

Responsbility include:

  • Gathers necessary data and information to prepare individual partners and secondee’s federal, state and local tax returns.
  • Conducts research and compliance analysis relating to various state and/or local tax reporting requirements.
  • Gathers required information, and drafts communication to respond to notices   from tax authorities.
  • Prepare tax returns using Gosystem RS
  • Prepares tax projections to quantify quarterly estimates and extension payments using BNA Income Tax Planner.
  • Analyzes state tax positions to determine tax efficiencies for partner composite tax elections.
  • Suggests tax minimization actions based on the partners personal facts and circumstances.
  • Assists in tracking tax return filling and payment due dates to ensure compliance.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or statistics; required; OR Bachelors degree in other focus area AND CPA certification, required.
  • Master’s degree with a major in Accounting or Taxation, preferred.

Skill:

  • Superior customer service skills.
  • Ability to maintain the highly confidential nature of partner personal tax information.
  • Capable of working and communication effectively with professionals at all levels.
  • Ability to work in a deadline- driven environment and handle multiple projects/ tasks with an attention to detail.
  • Ability to successfully multi-task while working independently or within a group environment.
  • Deep knowledge of federal and state taxation of individuals and owners of pass-through entities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.

Experience:

  • 1 to 5 years of experience in 1040 preparation is required
  • Experience preparing tax returns of flow-through owners, preferred
  • Exposure to multi- state and international tax preparation, preferred
  • Educational qualification: B.com/ M.com//MBA Fin/CA Inter/CA

 License(s)/ Certification(s):

  • Professional certification of CPA & EA is added advantage.

 Software:

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, specifically, Excel and Word, required
  • Prior experience utilizing Gosystem RS or other tax preparation software, required
  • Prior experience utilizing BNA Income Tax Planner Software, preferred.
