Job Summary

The Business Services and Outsourcing (BSO) Transition & Project Manager is responsible for planning, executing and managing the migration of Finance & Accounting and other processes from a client organization or from an onshore engagement team into BDO RISE (outsourcing/offshoring). Other key responsibility areas include transition program governance and managing transition risk. In addition, this position will support strategic or operational national projects that require RISE support.

 

The BSO Transition & Project Manager applies educational background, experience and Outsourcing industry knowledge of project management and delivery best practices to the transition of client processes.  The position is a critical part of BSO and supports both Regional and National initiatives. 

 

The BSO Transition & Project Manager is responsible for maintaining key relationships during the Transition phase of a project, identifying, discussing and advising the client on key project risks and issues and is responsible for driving closure of transition related activities.  The position also applies experience and knowledge of business processes to assist in the design and implementation of the right client solution, controls, performance measures and chargeback methods.  

Job Duties

 

 Transition Program Management

  • Manages project transitions per the transition framework in collaboration with the work stream leaders and the BSO management team (Work stream leaders may be both internal to BSO, external to BSO, e.g., IT or client assigned)
  • Build and establish the project management tools and processes for each transition, including setting up and chairing the appropriate project governance meetings
  • Oversees the full transition life cycle of assigned engagements by providing planning, execution and program management expertise through all phases of the project.
  • Develops appropriate project planning, execution and governance documents. Establishes effective project governance. Communicates project status in a timely and concise manner. Highlights project risk and works collaboratively with the client and work stream leads to mitigate risk impacts.
  • Accurately scopes new projects constructs a transition fee estimate/budget that considers all appropriate details, including, but not limited to: architecting, designing and planning/estimating a tailored client solution; identifying resource requirements and developing transition timelines and plans
  • Ensures that projects are transitioned on schedule and on budget.
  • Facilitates effective Discovery meetings to drive a detailed understanding of the complexity that can lie behind data in order for the project team to be able to use the information obtained to drive creation and implementation of the appropriate delivery solution.
  • Is able to visualize and create detailed process flows and work instructions that clearly delineate process tasks; roles & responsibilities; controls and areas of change.
  • Open to new ideas and methods; avoids “locking-in” to a single style of project management; knows BDO well enough internally to identify when services outside of BSO should be included and describes what these services achieve and how they operate; outlines the requirement in a concise document and vets it internally with their leaders and other BDO stakeholders.
  • Leads the client team through business changes and facilitates the change management process; is comfortable with ambiguity, knows when to create clarity (or when clarity is possible) versus when to make progress without full definition.

Project Management

  • Support strategic initiatives, workstream planning, business analysis, team and resource management, and troubleshooting
  • Implements and leads multiple, complex, mission critical projects that may be separate and distinct, or highly interdependent and integrated.

  • Continues to develop own capabilities in the Outsourcing practice within BSO through the management of outsourcing projects and applying lessons learned to new work.
  • Serves as a resource for the team, having developed an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the Outsourcing industry, delivery of Finance and Accounting processes in a captive, shared service or outsourced model; technology for supporting these functions and what is considered a standard or best practice for the industry or business structure.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

 

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or relevant field or equivalent experience required
  • MBA or other relevant advanced degree preferred

 

Experience:

  • Eight (8) or more years of experience working in the Outsourcing industry with an emphasis on Project Management, Transition and Transformation
  • In-depth understanding of outsourced service delivery models and demonstrated transition management experience working with or for BPO organizations required
  • Familiarity with Outsourced F&A processes technology
  • Consultative or business advisory experience preferred.

 

 

License/Certifications:

  • PMP certification a plus

 

Software:

  • Proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, required
  • Proficient in the use of project management software such as MS Project and Smartsheet required
  • Proficient in the use of process mapping tools such as MS Visio

 

Language:

  • N/A

 

Other Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Fully understands the finance and accounting functions and common best practices/processes for how they operate, as well as how they interact; understands other business imperatives/functions (e.g. data security, internal controls, etc.) and how they can affect the finance and accounting functions; uses this knowledge to develop “future state” process maps and transition client services.
  • Presents with a high level of competence, confidence, and effectiveness in a variety of settings and to a variety of audiences; presents well to all levels of management, internally and with clients; communicates in a clear and concise manner, and uses impactful and memorable language to emphasize key points; persuades others to their points of view; self-aware – knows when an approach is not working and can change course immediately
  • Strong organizational skills especially the ability to meet project deadlines with a focus on details
  • Ability to manage client and internal project teams effectively
  • Capable of working in a demanding, deadline-driven environment while handling multiple projects
  • Ability to prioritize own workload effectively
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision  
  • Strategically identifies with whom to build relationships at BDO to support their responsibilities; builds rapport and trust with other professionals easily; works closely with internal team members and other service lines to deliver successfully on project commitments
  • Ability to work US shift hours (5pm - 2am IST) if required.
