Job Summary

BDO FMA is seeking a Senior Associate to support not-for profit accounting and consulting transitional engagements with multiple engagement teams. As a Senior Associate in the BDO FMA Consulting practice, you will provide professional services that are sensitive to the needs and values of both nonprofit organizations and funders that support them. Job Duties

 

Responsibilities vary based on engagements and client needs and require an independent and multi-talented professional with accounting experience and a consulting mindset. The Senior Associate must be collaborative, proactive, and flexible – and adapt easily to changing client needs.

 

Duties may include any of the following:

 

Service Delivery

  • Deliver not-for-profit accounting and consulting services including but not limited to processing transactions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll, completing bank reconciliations, and processing expense allocations.
  • Support with budget uploads, forecast uploads, cash flow planning, and audit support packages.
  • Understand technology packages (for example, Sage Intacct, QuickBooks Online, QuickBooks Desktop, Bill.com, Tallie, Expensify etc.) that clients are using to support their accounting/finance functions and understand how the systems perform those functions; ability to learn technology quickly and understand the essence of technologies.
    • Proactively recommend and implement more efficient service delivery mechanisms.
    • Support leadership teams in making financial decisions including presenting analysis and findings and effectively communicating complicated financial information to a variety of audiences that have varying levels of financial literacy.
    • Assist in complying with new nonprofit financial reporting and disclosure standards.
      • Support fiscal and operational infrastructure assessments and implementation.
      • Support in grants management, including billing, budgeting, accounting, and compliance reporting with private, federal, state agencies (while recognizing restrictions and advising accordingly).
      • Support organizations that are going through change, deploying coaching and change management lenses.
      • Assist team compliance with Firm and engagement policies and procedures.

 

 

Practice and Product Development

  • Interact effectively with people at all organizational levels of the firm, including US based engagement teams; demonstrate the capability to build and maintain strong relationships across the practice.
  • Identify ways to make engagements more efficient and productive.
  • Actively participate in practice and product development, including monthly meetings and other areas of development.
  • Support in the recruitment of and onboarding of new BDO FMA team members to BDO RISE working in conjunction with local Human Resources, Learning & Development and onshore engagement leads.

 

 

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

 Education

  • Bachelor's degree with a major in Accounting, Business, Finance, or related degree, required.
  • Professional certifications (CPA, CA, ICWA, CMA etc.), a plus.

 

Experience

  • Proven ability to perform in a deadline-driven environment and handle multiple projects simultaneously, while focusing on productivity, quality, and customer satisfaction, required.
  • Two or more years demonstrated accounting experience, required.
  • Demonstrated understanding of US GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), accounting systems and financial statement preparation, preferred.
    • Experience working with nonprofits, preferred.
    • Experience with grants management and government funding, preferred.
    • Experience with nonprofit accounting principles, preferred.

 

 

    Software

  • Demonstrated experience performing accounting functions in technology packages, such as, Sage Intacct, QuickBooks Online, QuickBooks desktop, Bill.com, Tallie, and Expensify, required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive), required.
  • Proficiency working with pdf documents, required.

 

Language(s)

  • Excellent English oral and written communication skills required.
